A TikTok slideshow can have up to 35 photos, according to TikTok's Help Center as of October 2026, and the same limit applies when you post through TikTok's API. Instagram carousels allow up to 20. Most slideshows work best far below the limit: ViralSlides formats run 5 to 10 slides.

TikTok's Help Center says you can add up to 35 photos to a photo post (checked October 2026). TikTok's Content Posting API, which schedulers and posting tools use, accepts up to 35 photos per post as well.
If you have more than 35
Split the set into two posts. A part 1 and part 2 can work as a series, and each post gets its own chance in the feed. Cutting the weakest photos is usually better still.
Instagram's limit is 20
An Instagram carousel takes up to 20 photos and videos (Instagram Help Center, October 2026). If you post the same slideshow to both, plan for 20 or fewer.
How many photos you should use
As many as the idea needs and no more. Every slide has to earn the next swipe: a hook on slide one, one point per slide, and a payoff or call to action at the end. Lists and roundups can run longer; stories, tips and before-and-afters are tighter.
