TikTok Slideshow Size, Format and Specs (2026 Guide)

The image size, aspect ratio, slide count, file types and sound rules that make a TikTok photo slideshow render cleanly on every phone, plus the safe zones the app's own interface covers.

Most "my slideshow looks blurry" and "my text got cut off" problems are spec problems, not design problems. TikTok is forgiving about what you upload and strict about how it displays it, so the fix is to author for the display, not for the upload dialog.

Here is what actually matters.

Canvas size and aspect ratio

  • Author every slide at 1080 by 1920 pixels (9:16). That is the full-screen vertical canvas on a phone. A slide that matches it fills the screen edge to edge with no letterboxing.
  • Square and 4:5 images are allowed but shown smaller. TikTok pillar-boxes them with a blurred fill. It works, but you give up roughly a third of the screen to blur, and the post reads as "reposted from Instagram."
  • Keep every slide in one deck the same size. Mixed sizes make the carousel jump between full-bleed and boxed frames on each swipe, which feels broken.

File type and quality

  • JPEG or PNG both work. TikTok re-encodes everything on upload, so a very high quality source buys you little. A JPEG at quality 90 or above with no chroma subsampling keeps text edges crisp through the re-encode.
  • Stay under about 20 MB per image. Larger files upload slowly and sometimes fail silently on mobile data.
  • Export text as part of the image at full resolution. Text added inside TikTok's editor is rendered by the app and always looks native, but text baked into the image needs to be sharp at 1080 wide. Small type under 32 px tall at that size turns to mush after re-encoding.

Slide count

  • The hard limit is 35 images. Almost nobody should use it.
  • Five to eight slides is the working range. Enough for a hook, a payoff, two or three body beats and a closer. Fewer than four and there is no reason to swipe; more than ten and completion rate falls off.
  • Slide one is the thumbnail. It appears in the feed, on your profile grid and in search. Design it as a cover, not as page one of a document.

Timing and sound

  • TikTok shows each slide for a fixed interval unless the viewer swipes. On sound-synced photo posts the interval follows the beat; otherwise it is about two and a half to three seconds per slide.
  • Business accounts can only use the Commercial Music Library. If your account is set to Business and you cannot find a trending sound, that is why. Personal and Creator accounts see the full library.
  • A slideshow can also post with no sound at all. It still gets distributed, but a familiar track raises watch-through noticeably.

Safe zones: what the interface covers

TikTok draws its own controls over your image, and they do not move:

  • The right rail (like, comment, save, share, profile) covers roughly the right 20 percent of the frame from about 45 percent down to 85 percent of the height.
  • The caption block covers the bottom 14 percent, more when your caption is long.
  • The top 12 percent sits behind the status bar and the Following / For You tabs.

Keep headlines inside the left 80 percent of the frame and above the bottom 500 pixels. If you use our free safe zone checker you can drop a slide in and see exactly which pixels the interface will cover on a current iPhone and Android layout.

A quick pre-upload checklist

  1. Every slide is 1080 by 1920.
  2. Slide one works as a thumbnail with no context.
  3. No text in the bottom 500 px or the right rail.
  4. Smallest type is at least 36 px tall.
  5. Five to eight slides, one idea each.
  6. Sound picked before you upload, not after.

ViralSlides renders every slide at these specs by default and runs a post-render check that flags text sitting under the rail or caption block. If you want to see what that looks like on your own app, make a free slideshow and download the slides.
